Unnavigable Maps Soundtracks
This is a hidden webpage to explain this project to prospective producers.
The sound clips here are 3 short samples of the air organ that is a part of the piece. (The numbers of the sound files correspond to images 1-3.) The image here is a closeup detail of one of 6 drawings on plexiglass and there are additional air organ recordings, still images and video files available.
Each image is meant to have a soundtrack. When shown physically or digitally (as still or moving projections) they can be either accompanied by the audience on the air organ, or by pre-recorded or live improvised sound. Or some combination of the options above.
Most recently (June of 2025,) Unnavigable Maps was shown at Rising Festival in Melbourne, Australia as a 40-minute long, lightly animated video projection with pre-recorded sound in a similar style to what you can hear here, plus live , improvised accompaniment by Chris Abrahams (piano); Joe Talia (bass); Mick Turner (guitar) and Elisabeth Fuchsia (viola). This was part of the Rampant Optimism Roadshow’s enhanced performance/multimedia programming.
Full length sound and video files along some still images of previous performances are available for review on request.
