Walking in the Time of Covid-19 is a Google group that I set up to distribute occasional walking prompts as a means of coping with the stress and isolation of adopting the new ways of living suggested for managing the spread of Covid-19. The prompts are very simple: They orient our perspectives a little differently each time in the hopes of making a walk that we might have taken many times seem less every-day, and more of an opportunity for discovery. The walks also aim to get people out in the fresh air, and to fill some of the sensory void brought on by a hyperconsciousness that touching people and surfaces could very well kill us or someone we love.
Prompts began at 11:11am (EST) on March 15, 2020. In Fall of 2020, they dropped down from weekly to “occasionally” in frequency. They will end entirely when they are no longer needed.
The project has closed to the public as of 11:11am (EST) on March 15, 2021.
