International Artist Residency August 15–September 12, 2026, featuring Frances Crow (UK), David Prior (UK), Francesca Migliorin (IT), Heather Kapplow (US), Jurgen Walschot (BE), and Nicolò Minisi (IT) 

From August 15 to September 12, the village of Parada de Ester (Castro Daire) will host six artists and researchers as part of the Rede Tramontana project, co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe program. 

Four artistic research projects are taking root in the Montemuro mountain range: *Nomos*, by Francesca Migliorin (IT), traces the routes of transhumance with a handmade pinhole camera; *The Mountain Remembers Water*, by Jurgen Walschot (BE), draws and paints using water from mountain springs and streams; Ready Thought, by Nicolò Minisi (IT), transforms the Binaural Nodar ethnographic sound archive into an artist’s book and a public sculpture carved into the earth; and Heather Kapplow (US) turns thier own heartbeat into an instrument, in a project on mental health and self-esteem developed with young people from the community. 

The residency also welcomes Frances Crow and David Prior (UK), of the duo Liminal, who are returning to the Viseu Dão Lafões region to revisit sites from their previous research and write a text for the book celebrating the 20th anniversary of Binaural Nodar’s artist residency program, to be launched later this year. 

A co-production by Binaural Nodar and the Municipality of Castro Daire, through the Municipal Library, with the support of the Union of Parishes of Parada de Ester and Ester.  Binaural Nodar is a cultural organization supported by the Portuguese Republic – Culture, Youth, and Sports | Directorate-General for the Arts.
