Umbrage

In September of 2011, I posed as an academic in a panel discussion at the International Symposium of Electronic Art in Istanbul, Turkey. The panel was composed of researchers in the field of Emotion Studies, and the theme of the discussion was digital artworks that primarily address emotion or autism.

The project involved my submitting a paper and abstract for publication by ISEA, but I simply sat and sobbed uncontrollably at the panel table for my allotted presentation time. This stimulated an interesting discussion of the contagion of strong emotional states and how this impact could and couldn't be captured in digital artworks.

The performance was not documented, so the only content available for review are the textual components. The images here are both excerpts from the paper I presented, but it also contained the story behind my unusual presentation.

(Performance, writing.)
