Somewhere/Nowhere/Here

Somewhere/Nowhere/Here was a collaborative intervention commissioned for the 2019 Meetings Festival in Western Jutland, DK. With 4 other artists from the New York-based collective Flux Factory. Together, we developed a series of experiences throughout the week about finding a sense of place in unfamiliar landscapes in non-colonialist, non-authoritarian ways by using the 5 senses. We launched the week long project with walking tours, and I led one meant to encourage understanding through the sense of touch. This is a detail of one of those tours, where I invited the audience to lie in multiple locations with handmade sandbags over their eyes, while offering prompts to identify feelings of difference between the locations and feelings of “self.” The tour ended on a boat launch with the prompt “Imagine you were going to lie here for the rest of your life instead of just for a short time. How would you change the way that you are lying here?” After awhile I left the group and never returned...
