A site-specific piece created while in a residency juried by a very old and famous line of a kombucha mushroom in Minsk, BY.
I was invited to the residency to continue research on a larger project about luxury that I worked on for all of 2019, but was inspired by conversations with the residency’s producer about his experiences moving to Minsk in his teen years because of the radioactive pollution in Chernobyl. This piece was a re-imaginging of the radioactivity as a comforting “kombucha mother” which hung above gallery visitors singing a soothing witchy song about the healing power of mushrooms...
Singing Mushroom Cloud, is a sculptural and sound piece inspired by the kombucha Dostevesky, and created while in residency at oK16. The piece presents the possibility that the tea mushroom is a soft, comforting, infinitely wise entity that will offer refuge to those that choose to visit with it.
Singing Mushroom Cloud was created with critical assistance from Olga Salakheyeva.
